Using Online CATs
- Suggestions:
- Consider testing the CAT first in a face-to-face classroom
- Vary the CATs that you use -- don't overuse a single CAT
- Start with incorporating the CATs you are most comfortable with in your online courses
- Let the technology work for you:
- Survey
- Quiz
- Discussion Boards
- Chats
- E-mail
- Face-to-face students are a captive CAT audience. To help motivate online students to participate in a CAT, consider assigning points for completing a CAT. (Note: this is not the same as actually grading the CAT -- just recognition that the student completed the assessment.)
- Feedback is important for both you and your students.
- Use the feedback to continually improve your courses.
- How could YOU use a CAT in YOUR online course?
- Brainstorm....
- Course?
- CAT?
- Method?
- Question?
- Feedback?
- Try out the CAT yourself.
- Please visit the conference Discussion Board and post your ideas about how you plan to use CATs in your online courses.
